Event Details

Following the arrival of 13 new UNIPhD Fellows in Padua and the start of their PhD activities within the MSCA-COFUND Doctoral Programme “UNIPhD – Eight Century Legacy of Multidisciplinary Research and Training for the Next-Generation Talents”, the University of Padua is happy to invite all UNIPhD Fellows to the second UNIPhD Welcome Day.

The event will be held on Thursday, 30 November 2023 at Archivio Antico, Palazzo Bo, University of Padua and will be dedicated to Fellows, Supervisors and members of the UNIPhD Management Bodies.

The get-together event will share some practical information on the doctoral programme and will facilitate the establishment of a Fellow-network.

  • Ana Paula Mendonça

    Ana Paula Mendonça

    Dr.

    Marie Curie Alumni Association

    Ana Paula Mendonça is a MSCA
    fellow and obtained her Ph.D. in 2019 in biochemistry at the Federal University
    of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), where she worked on mitochondrial metabolism in
    brain cells under redox, metabolic, and social stress. In the last year of PhD
    (2018-2019), she made one year of training at the Universität Bremen (Germany)
    as a guest researcher funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
    She has been awarded a H2020-MSCA-2020 Individual Fellowship, PHERADOA, which
    focuses on identifying a pharmacological therapy that curtails ADOA visual
    loss. This project will be carried out at the Department of Biology, University
    of Padua, under the supervision of Prof. Luca Scorrano. Ana Paula also
    completed the Elife Ambassador programme and developed RADI, a non-profit
    health initiative on rare diseases, is a member of the Editorial Board of the
    Marie Curie Alumni Association as part of the Communication Chapter.

    Head of the Research and Business Relations Area

    University of Padua

    Manager of the University of Padua since 2001, he is the Head of the Research and Business Relations Area. Expert in the protection and valorisation of public research results and business planning of innovative enterprises. Former member of the Board of Directors of Netval, Proton Europe and PNI Cube, and of ANVUR’s Third Mission Expert Commission. Previously, he directed the Human Resources and Finance areas of the University of Padua. Before that he worked in various banks and in the strategic consultancy company McKinsey Italy. He holds a degree in Economic Statistics and an MBA from Dartmouth College (USA).

    Vice-Rector for Research and Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy since 2005. Ph.D. at SISSA in 1987, then at UC Berkeley, CERN, INFN-Padova, University of Rome Sapienza, Author of more than 100 scientific publications. Member (2015-2020) and then vice-president (2019-2020) of the European Research Council (ERC). Member of the Steering Committee of the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (2104-2022).

    University of Padua

    Francesca is Head of the International Research Office at the University of Padua. She coordinates the working groups (Individual Projects Unit, Collaborative Projects Unit and EU_Research_Hub@Unipd Unit) that assist researchers in accessing international funds and especially funding opportunities offered by the European Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. The research support services which she manages are addressed to individual researchers as well as research teams and cover the pre-award / post-award phase, as well the proposal writing activity. She is responsible for the implementation of specific programmes promoted by the University of Padua, financing excellent individual research projects and training initiatives dedicated to PhD candidates, researchers and staff members. Prior to her current appointment she has worked in the field of academic planning, managing mobility programmes and joint degree courses. She acted as project manager for European funded projects concerning research (Horizon2020, 6th Framework Programme, Structural Funds) and Higher Education (Erasmus+).

  • Jonathan Paul Lambert

    Jonathan Paul Lambert

    Jonathan Lambert is a MSCA post-doctoral fellow
    and obtained his Ph.D. in 2019 in Biomedical Sciences from Temple University in
    Philadelphia (USA), where he investigated mitochondrial calcium exchange in
    heart disease. In 2019 he was awarded an EMBO long term fellowship to study the
    metabolic sensing capability of mitochondrial cristae. In 2020 he was awarded a
    H2020-MSCA-2020 Individual Fellowship for his project, MitoFORMsinHF, which
    investigates how mitochondrial cristae, form, function, and organization are
    dependent upon metabolic sources and how this is implicated in heart failure.
    Both projects are being conducted in the Department of Biology at University of
    Padua, under the supervision of Prof. Luca Scorrano. Jonathan also completed
    the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology Junior Reviewer program and
    serves as a co-chair for the Padua chapter of the Marie Curie Alumni
    Association.

    Massimiliano Zattin

    Vice Rector for Postgraduate and Doctorate Programmes

    Massimiliano Zattin is a Full Professor at the Department of Geosciences. Over the past ten years, he has been involved in governance roles such as director of the PhD School and member of the Academic Senate. Since 2021, he has been appointed as Vice Rector for Postgraduate and Doctorate Programmes. He is the author of over one hundred publications in international scientific journals. Main research interests are about quantification of geologic processes and, in particular, the relationships between tectonics, erosion, sedimentation and climate.

  • Michelangelo Vianello

    Michelangelo Vianello

    Associate Professor

    Michelangelo Vianello is Associate Professor of Work and Organizational Psychology at the University of Padua. He studies personnel psychology, work as a calling, and the replicability of scientific knowledge. He is a passionate fan of Open and ransparent Scientific Practicies. He authored more than 100 pubblications, some of which appeared in high-impact journals such as Science and PNAS. He serves as an editor or reviewer for many scientific outlets and for the European Research Council. Within the UNIPhD project, he serves as Trusted Intermediary with the goal of fostering a high-quality, effective, and meaningful relationship between PhD students and their Supervisors.

      The University Library System supports institutional users on topics such as Open Science and the publication of research products. For this purpose a dedicated team of librarians, the Open Access Task force, coordinated by the Digital Library of the University Library Centre, is at disposal of UNIPD researchers for questions related to open access, copyright, research data and facilitations for authors.
      The Library System website, constantly updated, offers a complete overview of the available services (e.g. open repositories, agreements with publishers, helpline).

In this talk, Dr. Jonathan Lambert will briefly explain the advantages of being a MCAA member and Dr. Ana Paula Mendonça will present her experience as a member of the editorial team in the communication chapter and the events in which she took part.
